I appreciate the thoughtfulness reflected in what you have written. However I am not a homeschooling proponent. Maybe it has something to do with having parents who were school teachers.

What I have observed that many school districts offer "home schooling" as an option so that the district does not have to provide appropriate services to a child with a profound disability. Then there are parents, many of whom are victims of our dysfunctional educational system themselves and have neither the skills nor the background to be effective teachers themselves.

What I will say, is this: COVID-19 is an opportunity to rethink public schools and public education. What if learning was actually individualized and tailored to each child? From that perspective, there may actually be some opportunity for a real emergence of schooling for all that actually works.
