I saw two kids on the train last summer. They were about 10 and 12 or so. They were taking plastic bottles to be recycled. They looked enough alike in the face that it was clear that they were siblings. He was blonde, fair skinned, definitely a white boy. Her skin was darker, coffee with a lot of cream, her hair dark but with the swirling long curls some mixed race children have. His only privilege at that moment was helping his sister with the recycling chore, bringing money back to a family, most likely a single mom and maybe some younger kids that needed the support. They were family doing what family does, helping one another survive.
