When I turned 40, and trust me, when you are female and turning 40 and have not achieved the social expectations of at least one marriage and at least one husband and at least one to two children as well as a house and perfect credit and lots of savings, then you really aren’t feeling very good about yourself, I started whining in the presence of an 80-year old. She set me straight: I was alive, well-educated, working at a job that I enjoyed and in good health. What I didn’t have was way less important than what I did have and what I could hope to achieve and strive for.
