Yes, but there are the benefits of slavish devotion. But seriously, my BJ I inherited from my ex- (a COVID-19) victim. BJ and I were pretty close because I would take care of him when needed and when I would visit (the ex- was blind and I was a support person). So for most of 2020 the two of us just moped around and grieved together until I got offered a kitten. Olivier (that's his middle name) came to us in December and I do not think that either BJ or I knew how sad we had been until the bouncing ball of black fur joined us. So, I am once again the dutiful servant to a pair of cats. There job is to make me happy. It works.
