Your article reminded me of how in my childhood women, make that Black women with the earned honorific "Doctor" were not unusual. Dr. Alice Smart had been one of my mother's college mentors and became a lifelong friend. Mrs. Dr. Smart was married to medical Dr. Smart. Dr. Henrietta Cox was a family friend and one of our neighbors. Her husband did not have a doctorate but was the feared biology teacher who had a salt water fish tank in their basement in the 1960's. The Cox children became college professors. Tommy had a Ph.D. in history and his sister eventually went to law school, earning a J.D..

That term "Doctor" can be very inspirational.
